March 17th, 2020 10:00 AM EST It is with great sadness that the SCVA will also need to postpone the Red Rock Rave 1 and the Red Rock Rave 2. Some of our clubs, teams, athletes, and families may be disappointed in this postponement; however, the SCVA hopes that this will help keep our community safe by limiting the exposure that could occur at the venue. The SCVA has rescheduled the Red Rock Rave for May 8th – 10th. The SCVA will host all age divisions on this one weekend, and will be awarding bids for the 11 and under through the 17 and under age divisions. The SCVA will also offer a non-bid event for 18 and under teams. The field sizes will be restricted as the event will be on one weekend instead of two. The event will be open online for registration on Wednesday, March 18th. Once entered, you can email the office and have the funds transferred from the original Red Rocks to the new event. The MGM Properties are currently closed for two weeks so that all equipment, furniture, carpets, etc. can be properly cleaned and disinfected.
March 13th, 2020 9:30 AM EST As previously mentioned, this tournament will NOT BE CANCELLED. If anything, it will be postponed. We highly recommend keeping your hotel reservations until a further decision is made. SCVA released the following statement last night (March 12th): The SCVA offices will be closed for the remainder of Thursday, March 12th, and will also be closed Friday, March 13th. The SCVA would recommend for all parents to contact their club director for more information regarding future practices and/or events. On Monday, March 16th, the SCVA will have another staff meeting to review any new releases from the following entities:
World Health Organization
Center for Disease Control and Prevention
State of California
State of Nevada
City of Anaheim
City of Las Vegas
Professional and collegiate organizations
Following the meeting, the SCVA will release a statement in regards to the Red Rock Raves. If the event is to be hosted, the SCVA is aware that some teams may opt to not attend. If the event is cancelled or postponed, the SCVA is aware of all the arrangements that need to be made.
March 12, 2020 1:00 PM EST KC Sports Housing and SCVA are actively monitoring the COVID-19 and will continue to post updates. At this time, the Red Rock Rave - Junior National Qualifiers are occurring as scheduled. The tournament will not be cancelled. In the event we decide to reschedule the tournament, we will let all participants and teams know in a timely manner so travel adjustments may be made. Our top priority is the health and safety of all participants and attendees. We will continue to post updates as we receive new information.
March 11, 2020 12:00 PM EST The SCVA is actively monitoring the current situation regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). Our priority is the health and safety of our attendees and athletes. The CDC continues to emphasize that the risk to the American Public remains low, and states that Americans should “go about and live their normal lives.” However, the CDC highly recommends the following actions be taken to prevent the spread of the virus:
Avoid getting close to anyone coughing or sneezing.
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Cover your mouth with a tissue or your elbow if you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away, and then wash your hands.
Stay home if you are sick.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
Monitor the WHO and CDC websites for travel advisories
Regional Events: The SCVA is working closely with American Sports Center and Momentous Sports Center to ensure preventative measures are in place. American Sports Center is installing hand sanitizer dispensers on each column throughout the rows of courts. Momentous Sports Center will be increasing the amount of hand sanitizers in high traffic areas, and will also be supplying hand sanitizers on each score keepers tables. At this time, all regional events are being hosted as scheduled.
Inter-Regional Events (Red Rock Raves and Summer Soiree): At this time, all inter-regional events are being hosted as scheduled. The SCVA is working closely with MGM Properties and Mandalay Bay to ensure preventative measures are in place. MGM Properties are placing hand sanitizer dispensing stations in high traffic areas, adding washing stations, and increasing the frequency of disinfectant procedures. In addition, the SCVA will be adding hand sanitizers to each score keepers table, results stations, and championships desks. McCarran International Airport has not been advised to screen passengers for the virus. Officials for McCarran released the following, “Our custodial teams are deploying hospital-grade disinfectant on all high-touch surfaces around the airport, such as kiosks, escalators, door handles, etc. This is not a new precaution – McCarran makes these extra efforts to sanitize every flu season. With the emergence of the coronavirus in Clark County, we have increased the frequency of application and expanded the areas of the airport that are covered. The disinfectant in use is recommended by the CDC to combat COVID-19 and is being applied in the highest concentration for maximum impact.” The following are some links for Las Vegas area information: https://www.specialevents.com/special-event-show/covid-confusion-las-vegas-show-scene-prepares https://www.8newsnow.com/news/local-news/mgm-resorts-announces-precautions-due-to-coronavirus/ https://www.mgmresorts.com/en/covid.html
