02/24/2021 - Red Rock Rave, Las Vegas Classic, and Junior Boys Invitational Postponed "Dear Club Directors, Officials, Coaches, Athletes, and Families: As COVID-19 continues to impact our daily lives, there are strides toward a return to “normal” life. With efforts being made by many people and vaccines, there seems to be a trend of decreased hospitalizations and the spread of the virus. As businesses begin to reopen, all of us are discovering that the requirements or protocols vary between states, counties, and even cities. Trying to navigate through all of the requests for our Las Vegas events has truly been a roller-coaster ride. As stated previously, the SCVA, KC Sports Housing, and MGM Properties have submitted proposals to Nevada Governor Sisolak. Unfortunately, the Governor has denied our proposed request for the Las Vegas Classic, Red Rock Raves, and Junior Boys Invitational. During the months of March and April, any convention taking place in the state of Nevada will have a maximum attendance of 1000. On May 1st, however the oversight of conventions, the requirements to operate a convention, and any protocols will be turned over to the local authorities, which for us, would be the City of Las Vegas. With the support of the City of Las Vegas and MGM Properties, the SCVA has rescheduled the following events as successful negotiations with Mayor Goodman are already underway:
SCVA New Tournament Dates 18's Red Rock Rave JNQ March 27th - March 29th at Mandalay Bay Convention Center
Red Rock Rave JNQ #1 (15s, 16s, 17s) May 15th - May 17th at Mandalay Bay Convention Center
Red Rock Rave JNQ #2 (14s, 13s, 12s, 11s) May 21st - May 23rd at Mandalay Bay Convention Center
Junior Boys Invitational (18s, 17s, 16s, 15s, 14s 12s) May 21st - May 23rd at Mandalay Bay Convention Center
COLLEGE SHOWCASE - Las Vegas Classic (18s, 17s, 16s, 15s) June 4th - 6th at Mandalay Bay Convention Center
The SCVA understands the inconvenience of the date changes, and will work with all teams at dropping and refunding teams. KC Sports Housing will cancel all current room reservations, and refunds will take approximately 7 to 10 days. KC Sports Housing will also contact clubs to assist in rebooking. As a result of the rescheduled events, the SCVA will reopen online registration for the Las Vegas Classic, Red Rock Rave 2, and the Junior Boys Invitational. Should room become available at the Red Rock Rave 1, the SCVA will reopen online registration for that event as well. What is now our most challenging issue is the girls 18 and under divisions, that were originally scheduled to compete at the Red Rock Rave 1. Per USA Volleyball, the last day to award bids for the USA Girls 18s National Championship is April 4th. Thus, the SCVA has resubmitted a new proposal to host the Girls 18Open, 18USA, and 18American divisions on March 27th, 28th, and 29th as originally scheduled. The new proposal includes plans to follow the 1000 person attendance, by using multiple MGM Properties in the Las Vegas area. If this is accepted, then the SCVA would notify which division would be hosted at which location, so that teams could book accommodations at that hotel, to avoid commuting issues. The SCVA is also in discussions to provide live streaming of all courts at all events to our families and coaches. This negotiation with the state is in its very beginning stages, and modifications and/or new restrictions may be put in place. As we have done so far, the SCVA will continue to keep everyone up to date with all of the information that we have. The SCVA appreciates all of the individuals and businesses that have continued to support and believe in our efforts as we try, and try, to successfully host our events again. We know that many of you continue to ride this roller-coaster with us, and it is very much appreciated. Together we will return to teaching, coaching, playing, and watching our sport. Thank you for your patience and understanding, The SCVA Staff Stay Safe. Stay Healthy.
01/19/2021 - Las Vegas Classic Postponement "To All Club Directors, Officials, Coaches, Parents, Families, and Athletes: COVID-19 has changed many lives over the past year, and has completely redefined what is considered “normal.” The continued closures of schools and youth athletics have drastically affected many of our athletes, with the increased numbers of diagnosed cases of anxiety and depression. Many of us had hoped that 2021 would bring some long awaited relief from the numerous closures and restrictions. Although many areas are reopened and operating, other states, cities, and counties are slower on their return to open operations. In November, the Governor of Nevada issued a state wide, 3 week “Pause” to help reduce the spread of the virus, and attempt to assist the overwhelmed health care system. The Governor then extended that Pause through January 15th. Again last week, he extended the Pause once again through February 15th. The Pause contains the following restrictions: 1. Restaurants and bars can continue operations under strict social distancing at 25% capacity (indoors and outdoors) with no more than four people per table. 2. Gyms, fitness, and dance studios must operate at 25% occupancy, and masks must be worn at all times. 3. Casinos and other gaming establishments will be restricted to 25% occupancy and must follow the Nevada Gaming Control Board guidelines. 4. Public gatherings are limited to no more than 50 individuals or 25% of occupancy, whichever is less. 5. No large gathering plans are approved during this time.
Anticipating potential obstacles, the SCVA, KC Sports Housing, Mandalay Bay Convention Center, and MGM Properties presented to the Governor an action plan for hosting the 35th Annual Las Vegas Classic. However, the ruling will not be issued until February 10th, which is dangerously close to the competition dates. Thus, the SCVA, KC Sports Housing, Mandalay Bay Convention Center, and MGM Properties have decided that the event cannot be hosted on February 13th – 15th. All parties involved are working diligently to reschedule the event in April. The SCVA and Mandalay Bay are finalizing move-in and competition dates, while the MGM and KC Sports Housing are working on recreating room blocks with all of the MGM properties. As soon as the dates and contracts are finalized, we will release the dates. We recognize that this postponement may cause a variety of reactions; from disappointment, to frustration, to the inconvenience of rescheduling travel plans. The SCVA and KC Sports Housing will do our best to reduce the amount of obstacles and assist in any way we can. We also understand, unfortunately, that some of our clubs and teams may not be able to attend the event. We appreciate all of your understanding and patience while we continue to work on hosting an event for all of those wishing to attend. We also apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Stay safe."
